Knowing that I’ve played the game quite a bit and own all the major DLC, I’ve been asked repeatedly whether I recommend getting all the DLC or just certain ones. With my biases stated and my recommendations given, let me know what you all think as well.The Cities: Skylines DLC isn't all that impressiveĬities: Skylines is one of those fascinating games that attempts to expand on some amazing concepts for a city builder, but frequently falls flat on their face in the implementation.
Everything else comes down to playstyle, though I feel Green Cities is a major boon, and Sunset Harbor is a great way to get a taste of the world of Cities: Skylines DLC.Įdit: If you want just 1 DLC, Sunset Harbor is my primary recommendation aside from Mass Transit, but I wanted to give you a good overview to make an informed decision for yourself. I recommend at least After Dark and Mass Transit. I personally have After Dark, Green Cities, Mass Transit, Parklife, and Industries (and I'm waiting for the price of Sunset Harbor to go down). Sunset Harbor gives you a fishing industry that is independent of the industries DLC (which focuses on making general goods for your commercial zones, or exported for money), inland water treatment plants so you don't have to pump sewage into the water (allowing you to play on maps without water access), and trolleybuses, which worm similarly to terms but cannot share the same road with trams. Snowfall, when you're not playing on a snow map, gains you trams, which the community here seems to love.Īnd then the most recent entry: Sunset Harbor. When not using disasters, the dlc gives you helicopter variants of fire, police, and medical services, and fire watchtowers to help make sure your forrest's don't burn down.
Snowfall and Natural Disasters give you more extreme options for the maps, and are also complimented by the cable cars and blimps from mass transit. Campus let's you make custom college campuses instead of just using the base university building. Industries also gives you fences and some lower maintenance roads, but it's focus is on making profit from managing specialized industry. Parklife let's you build custom parks for measure, and doubles as a detailing toolbox in the form of fences and paths. Parklife, Industries, and Campus add more color to their respective areas, but are by no means necessary. Together the above 3 feel more like extensions to the base game. Not to mention Green Cities gives you greener sewage options, earlier trash processing in the form of a recycling center, and more options for schools. After Dark also gets you a couple nice tools in this realm, namely taxis and bicycles.Īfter Dark and Green Cities give you a wider variety of zoning options through specialized zoning and policies.
